With freedom to fail or succeed
he knelt ill before drab pealing
wallpaper hung behind his bed
a rental room, derelict tenement
fire escape exit lights gone out
stymied in enlightened rationality
mocked in his mind, detached
reserved, alone in unity of an ideal
he struggled to break free
to incarnate his will, overcome
resistance to divergent points
illuminate shadows in corners
smash windows of thin glass
to liberate the captives and lift
burdens of broken oppressed folk.
