AFTERNOON II

Afternoon stretched and angled
viewed from shade, long asphalt
sunny divide fading; the sun sinks
in Pacific clouds, diffusing intensity
as the domain of day wanes
leaving me wondering if
anything is really urgent, while
I float in orbit with the earth
turning to write poetry in paradise.
