Diophantus departed from Euclid
in Alexandria, a skeptic of Archimedes
geometrical constructions, opening
questions to solution less discoveries
the limits of our very understanding
in algorithmic Greek, later to enlighten
a Latin West to new possibilities
defying tradition’s authority, as so often
we stop at the edge, conforming
to risk, accepting without thought
what others have left, forgetting
Al-Khwarizmi and just bombing Bagdad
completely missing the point, until
thank goodness there is another
Fibonacci in the crowd.
