CIRCLE IV

Should I get up and go again
Making my way back?
My trellis of roses choked
So often, by circling wild vines
My dream country was Vaud
White capped Chamonix/Mont Blanc
In the distance across Lac Leman
De Nerval thought of Valois
Its morning mist at Chantilly
And now white fog lifting
From emerald jungles
And whirling green parrots
Racing around pylons
Of blossoming trees, coming all
The way around again, closing circles
Re-launching from piers of departures
Meeting at crossroads where I once
Had met.  I returned to Lausanne
In 1991, after Montreux, where I
Retraced the circle worn on the dungeon
Floor in the Castle of Chillon
Tying that knot, making my way back
Again into gossamers of warm memories
Floating in morning vapor, rising
From ripe for harvest  fields.
